The way to whoop up a traditional coat — That’s Not My Age

For some time now I’ve been on the look-out for a traditional, single-breasted tweed coat. Not a automotive coat that ends mid-thigh and permits an icy breeze across the knees – why are there are such a lot of of those round? (Much less material, cheaper to make?) However one thing just like the second-hand males’s coat I wore as a post-punk-loving teenager. The one which obtained nicked from a celebration and meant I needed to stroll dwelling minus outerwear on a freezing chilly evening. Knee-length. Retro. Basic.

After which, heading throughout city on New 12 months’s Eve, I popped into the APC store in Covent Backyard, probably not intending to purchase something. And, lo. There within the sale, the best, vintage-inspired, tweed coat. With a barely unfastened silhouette and moody-Northern-band vibes (Joy Division/ Bunnymen soundtrack here), it was the right match for my jumbo cords and trainers. Half worth. Achieved deal.

And that’s the way in which to whoop up a traditional coat. Go for conventional with a up to date twist. Introduce snazzy sneakers, a natty scarf and extra color than the monochrome, post-punk period might address. There’s a pattern described as Elevated Indie – and I’m right here for it. Spare us the automotive coat…
